Abstract

"Mantra" The Transform of Non-Conventional Typography of Sutardji Calzoum Bachri's Poetry into Music Composition

This study focuses on the discussion of efforts to transform the typographical aspect of Sutardji Calzoum Bachri's poetry to the medium of sound through the work "Mantra". Efforts to transform this aspect of typography are carried out by looking for comparative elements between the two mediums, between poetry and music. The author finds that the result of analogical comparison is that the layout of the words in a poetry work is similar with the layout of the performers as the source of sound in a musical work. Exploration of the layout of sound sources in musical works creates spatial music that needs to use spatial modulation techniques. The work is composed in a choir format because it requires the condition of the performers to be able to move places effectively.
