Resistensi Tubuh Perempuan Dalam Konstruksi “Male Gaze” sebagai Ide Penciptaan Karya Tari Video The Other Half

Abstract


RINGKASAN

Karya ini terinspirasi dalam membaca gejala sosial dan budaya sehari-hari tentang “tubuh perempuan yang terkonstruksi oleh tatapan laki-laki (male gaze) dalam pekerjaannya sebagai penari komersial”. Konstruksi tersebut menjadikan tubuh sebagai lokus dari salah satu dikotomi budaya yang paling kentara, seperti lakilaki/perempuan, maskulin/feminim, tatapan, yang membuat penulis mempertanyakan kembali apa itu feminin, maskulin, dan peran gender dalam tubuh perempuan. Analisis karya ini menggunakan teori Gender dan Feminist untuk mengkritisi adanya dikotomi budaya tersebut, kemudian menemukan suatu perspektif baru dalam membebaskan tubuh perempuan dari konstruksi male gaze serta melihat tubuh perempuan yang memiliki kepentingan/agensi atas subjeknya sendiri. Menggunakan Riset Artisitik sebagai bekal menemukan data-data yang menjadi pijakan proses penciptaan karya “The Other Half”, merupakan gambaran tubuh perempuan dalam meng-intervensi konstruksi tubuh feminin – maskulin yang dibentuk oleh budaya sehari-hari dan sebagai bentuk dari Resistensi atas kehidupan subjeknya yang kuat dalam merawat dirinya melalui tari. Karya ini menggunakan Pendekatan Fenomenologi Hermeneutic, Kreativitas, dan Koreografi. Hermeneutic pendekatan yang berfokus pada pengalaman akan tetapi memperluas subjektivitas, Kreativitas sebagai landasan cara berpikir dan berproses kreatif, serta Koreografi digunakan sebagai landasan dalam menciptakan estetika tari yang melibatkan gerak tubuh, komposisi, kesatuan, keselarasan, perilaku dan aspek visual lainnya, dan karya ini dituangkan melalui layar/video tari.

ABSTRACT

This study explores the "women's body that is constructed by the male gaze (male gaze), through everyday social and cultural phenomena that extend to the area of dance performances. This construction makes the body the locus of one of the most obvious cultural dichotomies, such as male/female, masculine/feminine, gaze, which makes the writer re-question what feminine, masculine, and gender roles are in the female body. The analysis of this work uses the theory of Gender and Feminist to criticize the existence of this cultural dichotomy, then finds a new perspective in liberating the female body from the construction of the male gaze and seeing thefemale body which has an interest/agency over its own subject. Using Artistic Research as a provision to find data that became the basis for the process of creating the work "The Other Half", is a picture of the female body in intervening in the construction of the feminine – masculine body which is shaped by everyday culture and as a form of Resistance to the subject's strong life in caring for herself through dance. This work uses Hermeneutic Phenomenological Approach, Creativity, and Choreography. Hermeneutic approach that focuses on experience but expands subjectivity, Creativity as the basis for thinking and creative processes, and Choreography is used as a basis in creating dance aesthetics that involves body movement, composition, unity, harmony, behavior and other visual aspects, and this work is poured through dance screens/videos.
