Abstract

Abstract

Representation of Femininity and Masculinity in 88rising's Discography. Gender is often considered to reflect agreed ideas or attitudes socially and culturally and to guide interpersonal interactions. The media is believed to have a substantial effect on gender beliefs. However, there have not been many studies on music, as one of the most popular forms of media, regarding this. This is related to cultivation theory, which provides a proper analytical strategy to examine the impact of media use on trust. This study uses quantitative methods with a content analysis approach. The population in this study is 88rising Discography with a total sample of 53 songs. Data analysis was performed using an independent sample t-test and SPSS software. It was found that the hegemonic attribute of femininity tends to refer more to women, and the hegemonic fact of masculinity relates to men. In addition, the details that most show hyper-femininity is nurturant/supportive, need a partner/love, and emotional, and the details that most show hypermasculine are dominant, aggressive/challenging, and material goods oriented.
