Abstract

“Ombak Asmara” is a final assignment in form of a documentary film with portrait documentary format and observational style approach applied. This work’s object is a ride called ‘Ombak Asmara’, and the subjects are the ride’s crew member who have life stories that is interesting to be captured in a documentary film. There are some solid facts that will support this documentary storyline, the story itself was centered on the effort of these marginal men to entertain the local citizens with their acrobatic moves.
Hardwork and solidarity are the spirits of these subjects to survive daily works. Their job is quite a rare job, not so many people are willing to do it, so they have to move from place to place, from a city to a city to fulfill their daily needs.
By applying portrait documentary format with observational style approach, this documentary is trying to expose the real life of these subjects. The camera movement technique was adjusted to their acrobatic moves, it was implying the hardwork and solidarity amongst them through the lens, and all of those were framed into a documentary film.
